What is Cantus?
Cantus Youth Choirs is a children’s community choir program for youth of Idaho’s Treasure Valley. Each Tuesday, nearly 350 young people gather from Eagle, Boise, Meridian, Middleton, Kuna and Star. Young singers from 8 to 18 years old (3rd grade to 12th grade) meet weekly to learn music, practice leadership skills, develop talents, and make new friends.
With four traditional ensembles and four contemporary ensembles, there is a home for any interested young singer, regardless of previous experience. All youth are welcome. No one is turned away.
Vice President and Associate Director, Keith McCauley is quoted in the local magazine, Eagle Magazine to have said, “We have created a community of excellence—a family of youth, directors, and parents that feel welcome and involved. We have a culture where people can take risks in a safe environment—where they can learn life skills through refining, honing, and perfecting music. It is fun, it is hard work, and it is a rewarding process.”
Cantus has toured throughout the western states, earning superior ratings at festivals, performing benefit concerts for people in need, and receiving invitations to perform at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall in New York.

The mission of the Cantus Youth Choirs is to provide quality music experience with the goal of attaining the highest level of artistic excellence in choral music performance. The organization endeavors to enrich the lives of youth from all religious, racial, cultural, economic, and musical backgrounds. The program strives to foster the personal and social growth of its members and to promote their sense of self-worth, discipline, accomplishment and pride.
Singers in the Cantus Youth Choirs work hard and love music. They can trust their director to provide a safe, nurturing environment and, in turn, the director can expect the singers to respect the music, the director and each other. They come to rehearsal prepared, ready to learn and eager to have transcendent musical experiences. Singers in the Cantus Youth Choirs have high expectations of themselves and their director, both personally and musically. And, because of this, they achieve success.
